What is the Radio Frequency Framework?

The Radio Frequency Framework, often simply called “RF”, offers the possibility of mapping complex processes for incoming and outgoing goods, order picking, stocktaking and much more using standard DynPros. These processes can be converted into an ITSmobile application with just a few clicks, which can then be used on mobile devices via a web browser.

In addition to the predefined interfaces from the SAP standard, customers can also define their own interfaces, logics and processes. These can be seamlessly integrated into the standard processes and extend the functionality individually.

Problems and weaknesses of the RF framework

Despite its versatility, the RF framework in combination with ITSmobile suffers from some significant weaknesses. The user-friendliness often leaves a lot to be desired, as the interfaces are difficult to read, the buttons are too small and incomprehensible abbreviations are often used. In addition, there are limited functions that make the framework less attractive for many use cases, e.g. the inability to use the device camera, integrate a signature field or make navigation through the application intuitive.

Furthermore, the framework no longer meets the modern requirements for mobile apps. It is not responsive and therefore does not automatically adapt to different devices. It also does not harmonize with other mobile SAP apps that are already based on user-friendly Fiori interfaces. Another serious problem is the loss of data that can occur in the event of a sudden network interruption. These weaknesses make it difficult to accept and use the ITSmobile solution in day-to-day operations.

An alternative: SAPUI5 RF apps with the UI5 Converter

In addition, the apps are fully responsive and automatically adapt to different screen sizes, making them ideal for mobile devices.

Furthermore, the new apps can be easily integrated into the Fiori Launchpad so that they can be seamlessly embedded into existing environments.
